The British government’s reverse-engineering of salvaged Martian war machines in the 1920s leads to the development of Tri-Crystal technology, and a space race in the 1930s. As AEGIS tries to provide security on an increasingly dangerous “alien frontier”, they create an elite unit with broad authority: the Space Rangers. Among the first selected is Lieutenant Sinari Vohn, an indigenous Martian trying to serve her people while drawing a salary from the Terran colonial powers.
